Mami Wata x Spider Murphy
Spider Murphy has shaped boards for more than 20 World Champions over a 55 year period. Most notably, his shapes have twice disrupted the direction of surfboard design with Shaun Tompson "Pink Banana” Pipeline single fin that he created in 1974 and then again with Martin Potter's "The Saint" 5'5" twinnie in 1981 - sleds that delivered both their surfers to world championships.
Spider first shaped a board in 1963 at the tender age of 16 and founded War Surfboards before joining Graham Hynes at Safari Surfboards as their main Shaper in 1972. Spider Murphy is synonymous with the legendary Safari Surfboards, founded by South African Surf Legends Max Whetteland and Baron Stander.
