To celebrate our love for the African blue ocean and African surf culture our friends at ROARK are hosting a Mami Wata AFROSURF pop-up gallery and store in their Berkley retail flagship space until the end of September.
The gallery features a range of 20 framed photos and graphics from AFROSURF the book, each for sale with the proceeds going to the African surf therapy organizations — Waves for Change & Surfers Not Street Children.
The pop-up also carries a range of apparel, Neo- Animism the fragrance, as well as copies of AFROSURF.

My brother Sanele started surfing first. He was always going to the beach, so one day i followed him and saw some guys surfing; and i thought, hey, that's a nice sport.

We live mostly in a 'western world', where so often, we are trying to be like each other - especially in surfing. And we think that modern western culture is always going to be the main influence. But if anything, i feel like African surf communities are going to be the ones to influence a lot of people around the world instead.

I'm a 15 year old girl from Yoff, in Dakar. My goal is to be a champion surfer representing my country. I also want to be a role model for the next generation, and show young girls they can surf and keep up with school at the same time.
