AFROSPORT KICKSTARTER - GET ON THE DANCE FLOOR

Our new AFROSPORT Kickstarter is starting to build up a head of steam! We’re 58% funded, by 187 backers with 18 days to go.

We’re on the path to our target of $60 000, but… we arent there yet. So, we need to get you on the dance floor!

If AFROSURF made you think differently about surf and global surf culture, AFROSPORT is going to make you think differently about sport and global sport culture.

We wanted to share a few of the contributors to the book with you. They are some of the finest photographers, writers, creators and thinkers from across the continent and beyond. They will explore the intersection of design, sport and Africa. Many of them were part of the crew who provided the magic for Afrosurf.

PLEDGE NOW

Why are we, a surf brand, making AFROSPORT?

African sports culture and design directly and indirectly informs the context of African surf culture.

Sport in Africa bisects themes of race, culture, appropriation, religion, politics, globalisation, diversity and colonialism. These themes now converge with the excitement and opportunity of Africa’s growth and urbanization in a globally connected world.

But why is documenting design in Africa important right now? Why is sport a good place to investigate African design? What is the relevance of Africa in design now and in the future?

We asked some of the contributors.
