ALAN VAN GYSEN’S PIONEERING TRIP TO EQUATORIAL GUINEA

ALAN VAN GYSEN’S PIONEERING TRIP TO EQUATORIAL GUINEA

Exploring Africa in pursuit of undiscovered waves sounds like a dream, let alone a job. But this is the niche of excellence that Alan van Gysen, simply known as AVG, has carved for himself. Mami Wata lover, AVG is one of world’s most respected surf photographers. He’s travelled the globe taking pictures of the world’s best surfers in largely unexplored locations. But most importantly he’s travelled Africa: Morocco, Western Sahara, Gambia, Senegal, Nigeria, Angola, Namibia, Zambia, Mozambique and Madagascar. We are super excited to be sharing the third in our series of ‘An African Surfing Life’ films: a profile on Alan, his approach to surf photography and adventure on a pioneering trip to an island where no one has ever been photographed or filmed surfing before – Equatorial Guinea. AVG embodies Mami Wata’s thirst for African adventure as he dances across the map, eyes searching out those rare grooves; the unspoiled places where natural wonder abides.
